The search for stillness and the antithesis of fear through oil paintings

+ We are pleased to announce ‘Stille’, an exhibition by Maria Marshall, a British multidisciplinary artist

Well-known, London-based video artist, Maria Marshall, has recently moved to Berlin and started to create energetic yet meditative oil paintings in a search for stillness and exploring the antithesis of fear. Fear is a theme that runs through each and every work that she has made from 1998 to date. Being a filmmaker, she explores the multidimensional complexities of ‘what the mind looks like’, paying particular attention to the construction of thoughts and rewiring the brain using the same method that addicts go through to break the habit of an addiction.

She believes that altering one’s mindset enables us to be the author and director of our own lives and free from the restraints of fear. Personal yoga and mindful meditation practice play a key role in her life.

+ The paintings for ‘Stille’ have been made during the last few weeks in the Werkhalle Wiesenburg

+ Recently Marshall was involved in the #Pizzagate conspiracy

#Pizzagate is the debunked Internet conspiracy theory which claimed that the U.S. Democrats were running a child-sex ring operation out of pizza restaurants. Marshall’s work is included in “Revival,” a survey of the collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), Washington, DC. The show celebrates the institution’s 30th anniversary and will be on view until September 10th 2017. Many of the works in the show were donated to the museum by Tony Podesta and his ex-wife Heather, which is what led to Marshall’s work attracting the attention of #Pizzagate adherents, as reported by the Washington Post, BBC, Artnet, CBS and the BBC World Service.
