Movement is a an exhibition by the Present Square project by Milo Frielinghaus and Lorina Speder, dealing with the question of visual documentation of the essence of music – that is showing the will of its creators in video works.
The artists will show a selection of video works that document music by capturing the body movements both of musicians in action as well as musicians remaining still. How does playing music and on the contrary, staying quiet, influence our physical expression? Present Square’s video works show musicians playing or not playing their instruments. When performing their instruments, the musicians move their bodies and, by contrast, when they are not playing, they do not move. Technological advancements over the last century have undermined this simple analogue logic. Focusing on cause-and-effect, Present Square references and critiques modern music videos, where musicians pretend to play their instruments to playback music.
The vernissage of the exhibition will take place at Werkhalle Wiesenburg on October 19th 2019 starting at 18.00h with ACIINTT, a sound performance by artist Erik Smith at 20.00h. Finissage with a live concert by the project’s band Present Square will be on 26th October 2019 at 20.00h. The finissage will take place on October 26th starting from 18.00h with a live concert by the project’s band Present Square at 20.00h.
Next to the Vernissage and Finissage, the exhibition will stay open on October 20th and 26th 2019 from 12.00h – 18.00h.

Present Square is an ongoing art project from the Berlin-based artists Lorina Speder and Milo Frielinghaus. The project introduces itself with music, visual arts and videos. The Present Square Project is currently the artist in residence at Atelier Bar Am of the new art space Atelier Bar Am in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
